Now in its fifteenth year, the Alamo Drafthouse-created Fantastic Fest is showing no signs of relinquishing its title as America’s premiere genre film festival. The first wave of its 2019 lineup includes premieres from around the world, restorations of classic horror flicks, and an eclectic assortment of documentaries.

Austin's annual entertainment smorgasboard, SXSW, is set to explode all over Central Texas beginning on March 9th, and today the Film Festival announced the lineup for my favorite section of the event, the Midnighters.

The award winners were announced Thursday evening at the festival’s annual awards ceremony at the Treasure Mountain Inn in Park City, Ut. Slamdance runs concurrently as an alternative to the larger Sundance Film Festival.

Slamdance’s Beyond category — for emerging filmmakers working beyond their first features — was announced yesterday along with its two shorts competitions, with five world premieres gracing the first category.

The festival’s Spotlight section, comprised mostly of international films, focuses on movies that will have screened elsewhere before the festival; Park City at Midnight includes horror, action and other genre films; while New Frontier showcases experimental cinema and features art installation.
